What are we all about?
This committee stands unwaveringly committed to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within CISV, extending its reach across every U.S. chapter. Our vision is to foster a tapestry of diversity within our organization, where each chapter mirrors the rich mosaic of its local community and state.
What actions do we take?
Our mission is twofold: first, to dismantle any barriers that impede participation, such as inaccessible venues, financial constraints, conflicting work schedules, or childcare needs. Second, we endeavor to confront and eradicate instances of microaggression, racism, or bias that may linger within our chapters. Our aspiration is for CISV to serve as a sanctuary of inclusivity, where every individualāregardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, ability, age, or socioeconomic statusāfeels valued and empowered to shape our collective narrative and impact.
Hence, this committee pledges to proactively identify and rectify any institutional norms or practices within CISV USA that perpetuate discrimination or bias against marginalized groups. We will work tirelessly at the chapter and national levels to cultivate an organizational ethos rooted in justice, empathy, and equity.
Who are you?
Your voice matters deeply to us. We urge each member of our CISV community to participate in our census, enabling us to gain deeper insights into your unique perspectives and needs. Additionally, we welcome your suggestions and comments as we strive to create an environment where every voice is heard and valued. Together, let’s build a CISV community that embodies the principles of unity, understanding, and belonging.
Introducing the CISV Inclusion Guide
In alignment with CISVās 2020-2022 strategic goals of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA), the CISV Inclusion Guide: Supporting Gender Diversity and Accessibility through Active Listening and Engagement is a comprehensive resource designed to support Chapter Presidents, Planners, Trainers, Risk Managers, JB (Junior Branch) Liaisons, selection committees, and others involved in CISV activities. This essential tool encourages us to consider accessibility and inclusivity at every stage of our work, from hosting events to forming delegations, recruiting participants, and implementing programs like minicamps and mosaics.
The Inclusion Guide highlights actionable strategies to create more accessible and inclusive environments for all members, especially those who are gender-expansive, disabled, neurodivergent, or managing chronic health conditions. Through a focus on active listening and meaningful engagement, this resource provides practical advice to build awareness and capacity in ensuring that all CISV participants can fully engage in our shared mission. It is our step towards a more inclusive and supportive CISV community, where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
